Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger are set to do battle once again over Tromso wonderkid Kara Mbodj.

Mbodj, is a graduate of Manchester City midfielder Patrick Vieira’s Diambars Academy in his native Senegal, and has been earning rave reviews during his debut season in Norway.

The 20-year-old has been regularly watched by Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley with the Gunners preparing a bid for the 6ft 3in midfielder, who can also play in defence, in the January transfer window. However it has emerged that the Red Devils are also monitoring the youngsters progress and are keeping tabs on the starlet, with reports in Norway suggesting Ferguson will battle Wenger for the player’s signature.

Both teams have been described as being lightweight in midfield this season, at Manchester United there is question-marks over Anderson and Michael Carrick’s form and at Arsenal there is an ever increasing dependence on captain Cesc Fabregas. Mbodj, who’s style has been compared to ex-Gunner Patrick Vieira, would certainly provide stiff competition for the midfields at both clubs.

Tromso chief Morten Kraemer said earlier this month: “There were several clubs here today, they have been here to see a match.??”There will be no meetings. There is no problem for us, they’re welcome to make checks. Kara can talk with his own agents and advisers.??”We have nothing to do with just that.”

There has been no price mentioned for the Senegalese powerhouse, however it is believed that a fee in the region of £3 million from either the Old Trafford or Emirates outfit should be enough to prize the talented midfielder away from Tromso.
